A major fire broke out at the Hilltop Campers site in Llandudno Junction, North Wales, on Thursday night, prompting an emergency response from 60 firefighters across six fire crews.

The fire, thought to have started because of an electrical problem, was only in the building, but it damaged cars, machines, and other equipment.

The fire started at 10:02pm. Emergency services from Llandudno, Colwyn Bay, Conwy, Abergele, and Wrexham came to fight the fire.

Teams used hosereel jets, main jets, and breathing apparatus to fight the flames. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, and surrounding buildings weren't affected.

According to Yahoo News, a spokesperson for Hilltop Campers confirmed that an American RV and a converted ambulance were among the damaged vehicles. Despite the losses, the spokesperson noted that “it could have been worse.”

What This Means for the Campervan Industry

This incident highlights the operational risks that businesses in the campervan and motorhome sector face, particularly regarding fire safety in workshop environments.

While Hilltop Campers has been fortunate to avoid more significant damage, the industry must remain vigilant about electrical safety, fire prevention, and risk management in manufacturing and conversion processes.

For UK campervan dealers and workshop operators, this is a reminder to review fire safety protocols and ensure premises are fully compliant with industry best practices.

With demand for bespoke campervan conversions on the rise, incidents like this can have long-term impacts on supply chains and delivery schedules.

Moving Forward

The industry will be watching closely to see how Hilltop Campers recovers from this setback. With their reputation for quality conversions, their ability to restore operations quickly could serve as a valuable lesson for other businesses in disaster preparedness.
